OUROBOROS in Phantastische Venus Exhibition Germany

visit my facebook page for more...
PHANTASTISCHE VENUS EXHIBITION- (Above image of Ouroboros from Exhibition catalogue).
My painting 'Ouroboros' will be showing from 25th July until November in Veichtach, Bavaria, Germany. The opening is this friday night 24th July, if you are in the area!? ... smile emoticon ...be sure not to miss this fantastic exhibition of over 70 international women artists. Curated by Reinhard Schmid.
PRESS RELEASE From the Town of Veichtach:
Fantastic Venus
Unique show with works of international women artists in Viechtach in the Bavarian Forest
Viechtach. This summer, an art show never seen before in the world awaits art lovers in Viechtach, the town in the Bavarian Forest: The exhibition of “Fantastic Venus“, curated by Reinhard Schmid, presents the works of not less than 70 women artists from all over the world working in the genre of Fantastic Art. This is the climax so far of Viechtach´s successful commitment to this field of art. Schmid promises an entertaining vernissage on Friday, 24 July 2015, as well as a spectacular exhibition up to early November in the Old Townhall of Viechtach.
„Center of Fantastic Art” – the town of Viechtach in the Bavarian Forest has been given this name with good reason. Every year it successfully presents exhibitions with excellent international artists in the field of Fantastic Art. There will be one more highlight this year: Reinhard Schmid, curator and provider of ideas, cooperates with the town of Viechtach to organize an unprecedented art show. “Fantastic Venus“ presents the works of 70 women artists from all over the world in Viechtach. Laudator Dana Güttler, Director of the Academy of Fine Art in Bad Homburg, is delighted with this idea: „I know that the town of Viechtach, and above all curator Reinhard Schmid, sets an important signal with the exhibition “Fantastic Venus" presenting women as artists, in times that could not have been more convenient. Ask yourself how many famous female artists you know - and how many famous male artists! This exhibition will contribute to emphasizing women´s competence in the field of art.”
Since 2007, there has been an excellent cooperation between the town of Viechtach and the local artist Reinhard Schmid in the effort to bring top-class artists and artist groups from all over the world to Viechtach for exhibitions of Fantastic Art. Reinhard Schmid, born in 1960, lived and worked in Chicago for quite a time. He has an art gallery of his own in Viechtach. As a member of the French group “Libellule”, he has been taking part in exhibition projects all over Europe since 2008. In 2010 he was awarded the “Medaille de Vermeil“ of the academic society “Arts-Sciences-Lettres“ (Paris) and last year he was given the “Glasstraßenpreis” (Glass Road Award). “Fantastic Venus“ is a project that means a lot to him personally. He refers to the official history of art where art made by women often has not been given the attention it deserves. Schmid says that particularly in the field of Fantastic Art he has got to know many excellent female talents in the last years. This is why he has had the idea and the desire to offer an exclusive forum to these women artists and to present the importance, the skill and the imagination exclusively of women artists at the highest level. In the foreword to the exhibition catalog, Schmid writes: “It will be the first exhibition of this kind, where 70 professional women artists from the fields of Fantastic Art, Magic Realism, Neo-surrealism, Lowbrow or similar genres from all over the world can be seen together.“

'PHANTASTISCHE VENUS’ Upcoming Exhibition In Germany

It's a great honour to be invited to be a part of this amazing upcoming exhibition, in the company of truly amazing 'Venus’ artists. Curated by artist Reinhard Schmid and a cultural event for the Town of Veichtach.

"Phantastische Venus" with 70 female artists from all over the world.
The exhibition opens July 24th 2015 in the Town of Veichtach, Germany.

'Throughout history, art created by women was often denied the attention it deserves. Over the recent years, artist and curator Reinhard Schmid discovered a wealth of female talent and wants to show it in proper proportion to art created by men. Therefore an exhibition planed in 2015 is to demonstrate the importance, skill and imagination of female artists on an unprecedented level. It will be the first of its kind, bringing together 70 female professional artists working in the field of fantastic art, magical realism or similar from all over the world.’ - http://www.phanart.info/2015-1/

J.Otto Seibold and Mr Lunch

In the late 1990's, I was fortunate to interview Illustrator/Artist J.Otto Seibold about his fantastic Books and Career. The interview was posted on the site of fellow Illustrator/artist and friend Simon Bosch on his site CultureZone at http://www.digital-illustration.com.au/c-zone.html.

Recently Simon and I were approached by the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco, CA,
asking permission to publish the interview in the Exhibition program/catalogue for J.Otto Seibold's upcoming exhibition. Quite and honor and we wish him every success!

J. Otto Seibold and Mr. Lunch

Here's a snippet from the Museums website:

About J.Otto Seibold

J. Otto Seibold is one of America’s most beloved and influential authors of children’s books, yet remains somewhat of a hidden treasure here in the Bay Area. Born and raised in the East Bay, where he still resides, his Mr. Lunch books (written with Vivian Walsh) are the first children’s books designed using computer software. His Olive the Other Reindeer is a holiday classic. In conjunction with the twentieth anniversary of the Mr. Lunch books, the exhibition will explore Mr. Lunch’s history and Seibold’s artistic process. Along with original artwork the exhibition will include interactive areas for children designed by Seibold with new content relating to Mr. Lunch.
J. Otto Seibold and Mr. Lunch is based on three books by J. Otto Seibold and Vivian Walsh: Mr. Lunch Borrows a CanoeFree Lunch, and Mr. Lunch Takes a Plane Ride.

New Work: Xtinction Exhibition

I am currently in a group exhibition exploring the concept of extinction… to people, places, things, flora & fauna. Xtinction aims to broadly highlight the many Australian species that are presently endangered.  The exhibition is a part of the Sustainable Living Festival and proudly supported by Healesville Sanctuary. All works are exhibited at Three Stories Art Space Healesville, The Artists Lounge, Healesville and Yarra Valley Gallery, Healesville.

My work can be viewed at The Artists Lounge.

'Living Web of Nature' Ink and Acrylic on sustainable Bamboo paper (approx 50 x 30cm)

'As humans we are part of the living web of nature … not separate from it.
How do we shift false perceptions of divisions between humans and the rest of the natural world? Don’t we ALL share a connected responsibility to act in the best interests of ALL of Nature, the planet’s ecologies and ALL of its inhabitants?
The central figure in my work represents Nature/Nurture as a symbol for a Sacred perspective of life, where Humans and the rest of the Natural World are undivided. She holds the endangered Helmeted Honeyeaters and their eggs, as spirits of hope and renewal in redemptive/responsible action against extinction, through Human intervention. '

Details
'Our generally western commodity view of life, contributes to the destruction of the very thing we rely on, and the planet’s resources, ecologies and all of its inhabitants are valued and diminished in relation to short-term economic gain and growth. Perhaps a part of the journey in ‘fighting extinction’ also lays in each of us responsibly addressing/challenging the commodity perspective in our own lives as consumers. What might change, if we were all, to look at our detachment from Nature, with an awareness of our collective impact on the planet and all life? And in examining this, what will it take for us all to create an undivided, Sacred and Sustainable perspective of the planet, its inhabitants, of life and to live it responsibly? What impact might this have on all life that is endangered?'
Work in progress

While working on this piece I began 2 other new works... here's 2 small preview examples.
I will add more detailed progress images soon.
